Genres We Looked At

Pop Music 

Firstly we looked at pop music which was a strong idea as this genre has a wide variety of what you can do with it and also we believed that this genre would be easy to do our video on as pop songs seem to flow quite well and look easy to work with. Despite this we decided to not pick this genre as we thought that this was a bit simple and something everyone else would pick.

Grime Music

This genre is something I listen to frequently so obviously this is one that I would like to have done but the rest of my group aren't as into this music so I had to settle for another genre. This genre is rapidly growing in the UK and isn't as mainstream as other genres so I believed this would be perfect. The messages that grime artists give might not be suitable for our video either.

US Rap Music

This is a genre that was suggested by Jordan as he likes this genre of music. I also would've been happy to do this genre as I like this type of music as well but Sarah and Amy don't enjoy this genre so we decided against this genre also. We also believed that there might be too many swear words in these songs so it would just make our lives a bit harder.

Drum & Bass

This was a genre that originally looked promising but we thought about the fact that there are hardly any words in this type of genre so it would make doing a lip sync video look very simple and make it look like no effort had gone into the production which isn't what we really wanted. But apart from that everyone seemed to get on with this genre so it was one of the most promising.

Electronic Music

This genre is one of the strongest of all the genres because everyone seemed to get on with this genre and also there was no factors as to why we should eliminate this type of music. We all decided that this genre would be the one that we were going to use for video. We have decided to use the song No Angels by Bastille ft. Ella Ayre. This song is a mix of two songs, one from Bastille and one from Ella Eyre.

Group Member Post

In our group for this year we have 4 of us. Me, Jordan, Amy and Sarah. We all have something different which we can work with in our group. We weren't in a group for last years coursework so it is good for us all to try a new group with different settings and new people.

I will be taking up the editing part of our video as that is what I am familiar with from last years task as I was the main editor for the previous production meaning that I have certain skills that I have gained and that I can use this year to make the best of our video.

For the directors position in our group we have people who are doing this together, this will be done by Amy and Jordan. We picked two people for this as we believe that this is the hardest part of the whole production and it is the most important part of making the production run smoothly and making sure that everyone knows what they are doing.

Sarah is going to be doing the creative side of the project which is the designing part. She will be designing the Digipak for our coursework which is obviously a big part of our groups structure. She has decided to do this because she feels she has the most creativity in the group and she also does photography meaning she has photo taking skills and knows how to edit photos to get them looking the best they can be.

100 Word Plan

We have decided that our music video is going to be a concept music video because we felt like the mood and tone of the song would fit well with artistic concept shots. We are going to include shots of parties, colour bombs, a shisha bar and time-lapse videos of traffic and big crowds. We also want to use a green screen to project clips of the film Psycho onto our main character. We want our music video to have mainly a night theme, which is why we have also decided to include shots of sparklers.

Locations

There were a few locations considered for the music video. For our music video we wanted a video full of loads of little videos from things such as parties, to even simplistic things such as just one of use driving from the driving perspective. These will all build up and become a montage of different clips in slow motion etc.

Party – A party would be a good place to film an electronic music video because it is full of people partying to similar music that will be in the music video so it will fit perfectly for the video. Also a party could have plenty of shots that will be useful for the music video. This could be long shots of everyone dancing and partying, close up shots of people and even 1^st person views from someone showing what the party is like – this shot would be good because the person watching will really think that they are at the party.

Car Driving (Anywhere) – This would be a good location to use as you can literally do it anywhere you want. We thought that we would use a place with street lights, this would give a nice effect of seeing someone driving from a 1^st and 3^rd person view with the lights flashing from the road. This would be a very simple but effective shot to use in our video. It will be one of the simplest locations because we can do it on most roads and it’ll be fine.

Forest type location (Paintballing site) – We thought somewhere like a paintballing site would be good to use as it would be a forest type of environment and would be a complete change of scenery from the other two locations. Also we had the idea that this location would allow us to use paint bombs in the area which could give our video a completely different feel. We could even take this further and ask if there was any way for us to be recorded whilst paintballing or we could record people paintballing.
